The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is responsible for the management and conservation of the state's natural and cultural resources, provision of outdoor recreational opportunities, conservation education and outreach, and interpretation of cultural and historical resources. As of 2018, TPWD manages 29 Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)-built parks.
Description:
The Parks and Wildlife Department CCC project files include records from Janelle Taylor, dating 1983-1985, 1991-2016, bulk 1997-2006. Taylor served as TPWD's CCC coordinator and CCC liaison. The records document oral history interviews with CCC members created by TPWD staff, CCC reunions hosted at TPWD parks, and research and publications promoting awareness of the history of the CCC in Texas. Types of records include oral history video interviews and transcripts in interviewee files, correspondence, newsletters and clippings, publications, research notes, photographs, press releases, event programs and brochures, contact lists and RSVPs, and financial information. Topics covered in the records include the "CCC Boys" program, scheduling oral history interviews, NACCCA (National Association of Civilian Conservation Corp Association) membership, individual CCC members and research to identify those who served in various CCC camps, and CCC reunion events held at various CCC-built state parks throughout Texas.
