Details

Description: The Texas Index Cards Collections consist of four sets of index cards originally held in the archives reference room pertaining to specific topic matters. The biographical index cards pertain to subjects/entities represented in the biographical collection at the State Library and Archives. Ships at Texas Ports lists details of ship arrivals at Texas ports from 1836 to 1843. The Colonial Ship Lists provides arrival information for individual colonists arriving at Texas ports and call number for materials information was summarized from. Custom House Ship Lists give summary details, such as arrival date and ship name, for individuals arriving at Texas ports as well as the original call number for the related archival materials. The materials summarized in these index card collections have not been added to the TDA.

Arrangement: Item level descriptive information is not available for the index card collections. Each collection is arranged alphabetically and is divided into large ranges of cards reflective of the number of cards that are in a single card catalog drawer, about 1000 index cards each. Within that large range, cards are numbered sequentially based on order in the drawer. Users will need to scroll through cards to see their contents.

General note: To help in search and discovery of the materials, index card images have been converted to PDF and had optical character recognition (OCR) applied. Due to the volume of material, OCR was not quality checked for accuracy. Refer to actual text of the card for the most accurate information.
