Abstract: The Texas Department of Commerce (TDOC), established in 1987 by consolidating eight state agencies, boards, and commissions into one agency, was responsible for creating new jobs, improving the economic prosperity of the state by attracting new businesses to Texas, encouraging the growth of existing businesses, working with local community entities to foster economic growth, promoting Texas as a tourist destination, and improving the skills of the Texas work force. TDOC’s Business Development division concentrated on retaining and expanding the state’s existing business and industrial base, and part of that work involved operating programs to aid in funding businesses seeking to expand or to bring new products to the market. These TDOC Business Development records are project files, bond transcripts, correspondence, agenda, memorandums, and audio recordings of advisory board meetings, 1985-1994 and undated, bulk 1991-1993.
