The primary function of the Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPD) is to further opportunities for people with disabilities in the state of Texas. This includes monitoring the state’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), providing information to the public regarding ADA, serving as liaison with other organizations assisting the disabled, promoting coordination of services for persons with disabilities, making recommendations to the governor on programs supporting people with disabilities, monitoring the implementation of a long-range state plan for Texans with disabilities, and issuing awards and other recognition to individuals and organizations making a difference for persons with disabilities.
