The Economic Development and Tourism Division (EDT) of the Texas Governor’s Office under Governor Rick Perry specialized in encouraging in-state business expansion and relocation, as well as promoting domestic and international tourism via partnership with local convention and visitors bureaus, chambers of commerce, and private travel-related organizations. The records consist of electronic files generated by the office of Aerospace, Aviation, and Defense, a subdivision of the EDT, dating 2003-2011. The principal role of this office was the development of aerospace and related industries in Texas in collaboration with interested stakeholders in both the public and private spheres. Major initiatives towards that goal include securing funds via business incentive programs like the Texas Enterprise Fund and promotion of legislation beneficial to the concerned industries. Related activities include fighter jet and helicopter assembly, navigation instrument development, advanced space-flight research, military pilot training, and commercial space travel.

Topics addressed in the records include property acquisition, area economic impact, project timelines and status updates, analysis of incentives, community profiling, and communication with interested companies. Types of records consist of incoming and outgoing correspondence, memorandums, economic impact statements, reports, agendas, slide presentations, spreadsheets, press releases, strategic plans, and digital photograph files. Organizations represented include the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Vought Aircraft Industries Inc., and Safire Aircraft.
