Scope and ContentEconmic Development

The Economic Development and Tourism Division (EDT) of the Texas Governor’s Office under Governor Rick Perry specialized in encouraging business expansion and relocation within the state of Texas, as well as promoting domestic and international tourism via partnership with local convention and visitors bureaus, chambers of commerce, and private travel-related organizations. The records consist of paper and electronic materials generated by Business Development, a subdivision of the EDT, dating 1998-2014. The principal role of Business Development is providing assistance to companies interested in expansion or relocation opportunities in Texas as well as promoting the state’s propitious climate for businesses. Topics covered include international and domestic business relocation, corporate relations, inter-office travel, marketing planning, commercial and demographic research, and the Texas Enterprise Fund. The paper files derive from Corporate Expansion and Recruitment, a subsidiary of Business Development which would later be split into two units: Domestic Expansion and Recruitment, and International Business. Types of records include incoming and outgoing correspondence, memorandums, reports, presentations, speeches, spreadsheets, press releases, strategic plans, promotional materials, calendars, guides, and digital photograph files. Organizations represented in the records include the Boeing Aerospace Company, McDonnell Douglas Aerospace, the Ret-Ser Engineering Agency, Wal-Mart, and the Toyota Group.
