Scope and Content

The Governor’s Commission for Women (GCW) was created in 1967 to serve as a liaison between Texas women and government agencies, as well as private entities addressing women’s needs. These records include material related to projects that the GCW was associated with over the years, including health and wellness; science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); teen dating violence prevention; violence against women, and military family assistance, dated 2001-2014.

Present in the records are notes on conferences, correspondence, budget documents, meeting minutes and agenda, invitations, rosters, and community projects proposing collaborations.

Formats of the original electronic files include word processing files (.doc, .docx), spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx), slide presentations (.ppt), desktop publishing files (.pub), and PDFs. Digital files presented for public use will generally be PDF for text documents or spreadsheets. Files in their original format are available on request; restrictions may apply.

Arrangement
This is an artificially created category of electronic records. Within this category, however, records are arranged in the order as received from the agency. Therefore files within the sub-folders remain in the original order and the file names are unchanged. Files tend to be labeled descriptively and include information about the associated subject, event or person.
