Scope and Content

Major responsibilities of the Press Office under Governor Rick Perry included issuing press releases and media advisories on the activities and actions of the governor, as well as the first lady; writing speeches and public service announcements for the governor and the first lady; and creating visual and audio documentation of the governor’s and the first lady’s public events. Subject files, 2002, 2005-2008, maintained by the Governor’s Press Office provide background information on topics Anita Perry took a professional interest in as first lady. Records of this office comprise electronic records related to the 73rd Annual Rose Festival Parade; the Anita Perry School of Nursing; breast cancer awareness; the Texas Governor’s Mansion; immunization, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and National Infant Immunization Week; the Texas Main Street Program; the Texas Conference for Women; the Texas Round-Up; and tourism and international relations in Texas. Various records appear in each subject folder, including, in some cases, talking points, question and answer materials, interview transcripts, fact sheets and logistical information for related public events, press releases and invitations.

Formats of the original electronic files include word processing or plain text files (.doc, .docx, .txt), spreadsheets (.xls., xlsx), PDFs, PowerPoint, and web-ready images (.htm). Digital files presented for public use will generally be PDF for text documents or spreadsheets. Files in their original format are available on request; restrictions may apply.
