Scope and Content
The Texas Music Office (TMO) of the Texas Governor’s Office is a state-funded business promotion office and information clearinghouse for the Texas music industry. Records mostly consist of various versions of legislative bills and bill analyses relevant to Texas music history and industry but also include incoming and outgoing correspondence, memoranda, clippings, fiscal notes, notices of hearings, amendments, address lists, notes, research, case summaries, dating 1990-2014. The electronic records focus on legislation from the 79th (2005) through 83rd (2013) sessions, while then paper records focus on the 71st (1990) through 80th (2007) sessions. Legislation considered in the files concerns a number of issues, including taxation on alcoholic mixed drinks, tax exemptions for live music venues and recording studios, the establishment of a Tejano Music Archive and a Texas State Music History Museum, state investment in music recording companies, licensing and regulation of music therapists and talent agencies, and the initiation and funding of the Texas Music History Tour program.

Formats of the original electronic files include word processing or plain text files (.doc, .docx), spreadsheets (xlsx), emails, and PDFs. Digital files presented for public use will generally be PDF for text documents or spreadsheets. Files in their original format are available on request, restrictions may apply.
