42-page portion of a bound journal written in German dating September 1843-September 1844 and measuring 7.25 x 4.5 x 0.5 inches. H.R. Nieman Jr. obtained this diary during his time as the executive director for the Texas State Building Commission. One function of the State Building Commission was to plan and construct new state buildings, remodel existing ones, and demolish commercial, residential, and church properties to make way for construction in the Capitol Complex. A contractor found the diary while demolishing an old residence in Austin, Texas.
