Description:
Sam Houston served as president of the Republic of Texas (1836-1838, 1841-1844) and was one of the organizers of a land company in Jefferson County, Texas, the Company of the City of Sabine. The Franklin Weston Williams collection of Sam Houston records and other materials consists of the Private Executive Records of the Second Term of Sam Houston's Administration of the Government of the Republic of Texas, an index to the Private Executive Records, documents pertaining to Sam Houston's presidency and his involvement in the Company of the City of Sabine, and a bust of Sam Houston, sculpted by artist Penelope Lingan. The collection dates 1837-1853, 1920s-1930s, bulk 1841-1844. With the exception of the Constitution of the City of Sabine, military orders, and the bust, this collection has been digitized and is part of the Texas Digital Archive.
