The Dorothy E. Loe collection of Sam Houston letters and other materials documents the family life of Sam Houston and his wife Margaret Lea Houston, as well as certain actions by Houston as general of the Texas Army during the Texas Revolution. The collection consists of correspondence between Sam and Margaret Lea Houston during his tenure as a United States senator, a handwritten will of Sam Houston, a petition pertaining to the 1836 seizure of the steamboat Yellow Stone by General Sam Houston, and a brooch that belonged to Houston's eldest daughter, Nancy Elizabeth. The collection dates about 1846-1863, bulk 1852-1856.
