Historical Note: This medal was presented to Annie Thomas Masterson by Robert E. Lee. Robert Edward Lee was born in Virginia on January 19, 1807. He was a military officer and commanded the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia in the American Civil War. He died on October 12, 1870, in Virginia. An Annie Thomas Chalmers Masterson (1844-1914) was born in Austin and died in Houston.
