Title:
Homer P. Rainey gubernatorial campaign recordings
Description:
Homer Price Rainey ran for the Democratic Party nomination for Texas Governor in 1946, but lost to Beauford H. Jester. These sound recordings were created between May 5 and August 24, 1946, from pre-recorded and live radio broadcasts leading up to and including the election day. The recordings contain addresses from Homer P. Rainey covering issues such as education, health, old-age pensions, farming, and socioeconomic inequalities. Additional addresses consist of other Texans voicing their support of Rainey, including former Texas Governor James V. Allred, Jane Y. McCallum, Marguerite Gibson Shearer Fairchild, Jerry Sadler, Cactus Pryor, and Dr. Littleton A. Woods. Rainey's election day concession radio address is included. These materials have been digitized and are part of the Texas Digital Archive.
