Title:
Texas Library Association unit files
Description:
The Texas Library Association (TLA) is divided into groups, or units, to connect members who work within the same type of library, live in the same part of Texas, or share common professional interests. There are four divisions that each represent a type of library: college and university libraries, public libraries, special libraries, and the Texas Association of School Librarians (TASL). Each member of the TLA is also part of a regional district based on their preferred address. Round tables help connect members with shared professional interests such as youth programming, reference, archives, and collection development. Committees plan and direct projects and activities for the TLA.
Description:
This series contains records from the ten TLA districts, as well as TLA's numerous committees, round tables, and subordinate groups from 1939 to 2018. The series includes round table meeting minutes, conference planning documents, conference programs, correspondence, event and program planning, and documents from TLA's political action committee and petitions to the Texas legislature.
Description:
This series also includes records from the TLA's annual children's book award: the Texas Bluebonnet Award. Each year the Texas Bluebonnet Award committee selects twenty children's books and distributes a reading list to schools and libraries across Texas. Students from grades 3 through 6 read books from the list and vote on their favorite. The book with the most votes is awarded the Texas Bluebonnet Award at the TLA conference's luncheon. The Texas Bluebonnet Award records include information on the nomination and selection process, the annual reading lists, and the authors chosen for recognition.
