Description:
The Texas Historical Commission (THC) administers programs to preserve the architectural, archeological, historical and cultural resources of Texas. The History Programs Division of the THC provides preservation assistance to county historical commissions, museums, nonprofit preservation organizations, state and federal agencies, local governments, students, educators, and the general public. Historical marker files include official sponsorship application forms, narrative history and documentation describing the significance of the location up for consideration, floor plans, maps, historic photographs, photographs of the current location, and the marker inscription text, dating 1962-2016. Also included are spreadsheets created by THC of all RTHL (Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks) records transferred to the State Archives, which include the marker number, county, title, address, year, job number, and timeline of events for marker approval. These records are in electronic format.
