Restrictions on Access
Because of the possibility that portions of these records fall under Public Information Act exceptions including, but not limited to: home addresses or telephone numbers of commission members and staff (Texas Government Code, Section 552.117); and email addresses (Texas Government Code, Section 552.137); an archivist must review these records before they can be accessed for research. The records may be requested for research under the provisions of the Public Information Act (Texas Government Code, Chapter 552). Scope and Content
The Governor’s Commission for Women (GCW) was created in 1967 to serve as a liaison between Texas women and government agencies, as well as private entities addressing women’s needs. The state agency council provides official communication between Texas women and the GCW. These records document the commission’s activities and correspondence with local commissions for women throughout Texas, dated 2001-2014. Files include administrative records such as blank evaluation, funding request, and survey forms; meeting reports; agenda; minutes; membership rosters; calendar of events; invitations; mailing lists; remarks and talking points; and position responsibilities.

Formats of the original electronic files include word processing files (.doc, .docx), spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx), and PDFs. Digital files presented for public use will generally be PDF for text documents or spreadsheets. Files in their original format are available on request; restrictions may apply.


Arrangement
Records are arranged in the order as received from the agency. Files tend to be labeled descriptively and include information about the subject and date.
